Josh finished his assessment on Monday. He had so much fun he was ready to replace school with Brain Balance. The gist was that he has a high IQ (Reading Comprehension 12.9 grade) but his emotions are age 5, right brain deficit, on medication. Another very interesting find was that he has a severely week reflux, asymmetrical tonic neck, this impacts: Poor handwriting, can't express ideas in written form, poor eye tracking/hand-eye coordination, difficulty with reading/writing, and copying from the blackboard. Josh has dysgraphia which is an inability to get words from your mind to paper, so a validation of the assessment. My biggest issue with 5th grade has been writing. Honestly, it's always been an issue with sloppy writing, two words per sentence, etc. but with bi-weekly essays it has really started to impact school. (and mom's sanity!)
Now the emotional piece, Josh has been kicked out of daycares, school, and has hurt his brother/other kiddos so many times because he has no regard to boundaries. He's 11 and just the other day he was bouncing his fox on his 8 year old brothers head saying wee, wee, wee, the fox is jumping on your head. Aiden would say, Josh please stop, and his response..."its not me its the fox!"
I would love to get Josh to a point were he can be in public without creating a scene, talking over people, only discussing his interests, hurting someone, saying something inappropriate or playing games which is the easiest way right now to solve the first five problems >< We all love Josh with all our heart and we are here to see him through a neuro-deficiency, not of his doing. My plan is to track our journey through this amazing process.
Today James and I went to Sprouts to prepare for our first session Monday, March 29th. At some point we are going to have to do a sugar free, gluten free, dairy free diet so we are going to practice this first week with gluten/dairy free while I figure out what the heck doesn't have sugar! :)
Program consists of:
Diet elimination and addition
Home exercises 20 minutes in morning and 20 minutes in the evening
Physical Therapy to help right side of brain 3x week for 30 minutes with a coach
Neuro academic training to help right side of brain 3x week for 30 minutes with a coach
Program length = 12 weeks = 36 sessions
