For over 7 years I have been going to Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Neurologists, Speech Pathologists, CHADD conferences, Neurofeedback, Play Groups, Camps and everyone still wants to treat the symptoms of Josh’s ADHD/Autism. I read an amazing book today that explained to a T what I have thought all this time about the cause of Josh’s brain imbalance, one diagnosis that covers all – Function Disconnect Syndrome, and what can be done to decrease or eliminate symptoms.
Why has autism sky rocketed by over 800% in the last 10 years?
Current massive studies are being done by Yale on 5 million children that explains 25% as diagnostic improvement, 15% on higher detection rate, 10% on older parents, 5% on others, and 50% is unknown. Dr Melillo believes the unknown is 40% Genes and 60% Environment. This includes a huge list of potential contributors including: Parents Brain Imbalance, Diet, Stress (high cortisol), overweight parents, vitamin d deficiency in parents, family history of mental illness, thyroid deficiency, medication, drugs to induce labor, c-sections, complications during pregnancy, traumatic birth, pre-birth, breech, fetal distress, prolonged birth, cord wrap, lack of oxygen. According to Dr Melillo girls need several more co-occurences then boys for these to create a brain imbalance and that is why more boys are diagnosed with ADHD/Autism/Dyslexia.
Josh has a major right brain deficit. He has a low EQ, mixed dominance – Uses left and right side of his body which should preferably all be on one side otherwise your brain has to work harder to go back and forth, Sensory issues for sight/sound, poor social skills, lack of knowing boundaries, clumsy or unaware of own space, impulsive, lack of executive function (no conductor to orchestrate the brain and all the messages). The left side of the brain is the go pedal and the right side is the brake or emotional reasoning on whether you should or should not do something. The right side of the brain is extremely important and is the first side of the brain to develop until 2 years old. From there both left and right brain switch until age 10.
What Josh’s program is trying to do is “sleep” the left side of his brain, which is dominant, to activate the right side of the brain. Your dominant side of your brain will take over for the other side, therefore, it never gets exercised.
Socialization cannot be taught it needs to happen naturally.
